In an exciting new chapter for downtown revitalization, NewTown Macon is thrilled to announce a successful funding round, raising $7,310,000 to further its mission of making Macon a vibrant hub of economic, cultural, and social life. Established in 1996 through a visionary collaboration between civic leaders and The Peyton Anderson Foundation, NewTown Macon has been at the forefront of transforming the downtown area for 25 years. With substantial community investment exceeding $842 million, the organization has made remarkable strides in uplifting Macon's heart. Since 2016, they have successfully purchased and rehabilitated seven buildings, culminating in the addition of 69 lofts and 12 storefronts that breathe new life into the downtown market. The latest infusion of funds will empower NewTown Macon to expand its initiatives, including the Business Improvement District and NewTown Loans—Middle Georgia’s first Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) designated by the IRS Treasury. These strategic programs aim to bolster local businesses and enhance the quality of urban life. The impact of NewTown's efforts is palpable, with a current storefront occupancy rate of 80%, a loft occupancy rate of 94%, and over 900,000 attendees participating in annual events. This funding will allow NewTown Macon to continue its comprehensive approach to downtown development, creating an even more inviting atmosphere for residents and visitors alike, and solidifying Macon’s position as a thriving cultural epicenter. The future of downtown Macon has never looked brighter, and NewTown Macon is eager to lead the charge into this promising new era.
