The Lewiston Housing Authority is thrilled to announce a significant funding boost of $1,250,000, aimed at furthering its mission of providing dignified, safe, and affordable housing to those in need. Established in 1963, the authority has been a crucial pillar in the city of Lewiston and surrounding communities—including Greene, Lisbon, Lisbon Falls, and Sabattus—dedicating itself to fostering economic uplift and personal growth for its residents. This new funding will enhance ongoing initiatives and expand housing opportunities, enabling the authority to maintain its stewardship of over 500 housing units and the administration of approximately 1,200 Housing Choice vouchers. The funds will support an array of resident services and community programs, ranging from afterschool activities in partnership with local organizations like the YMCA to educational initiatives that promote personal empowerment among families and seniors. Recognized as a High Performer by HUD, Lewiston Housing is committed to maximizing the impact of every dollar spent, championing inclusive practices that break the cycle of poverty and build resilient communities. With this funding, the Lewiston Housing Authority is set to elevate its services even further, ensuring that all eligible residents, free from discrimination, have access to the support and housing they deserve. This investment not only reinforces the authority's dedication to uplifting lives but also lays the groundwork for a brighter, more equitable future for the entire Lewiston community.
