Glasgow City Region has announced it has secured $30,000,000 in new investment capital from investors. The entity, which comprises eight partner councils working with local and national stakeholders, is dedicated to driving economic growth and improvement across its constituent areas. This funding round marks a significant step in its ongoing efforts to develop a thriving regional economy.
The Glasgow City Region aims to foster an environment where residents can live, work, and study, businesses can flourish, and companies are encouraged to invest. Its overarching ambition is to become the most productive City Region economy in the United Kingdom. This newly raised capital provides essential resources to accelerate these strategic objectives, supporting long-term economic development plans.
The received funds are planned to be allocated towards various growth initiatives critical to the region's development. Historically, since its Cabinet was established in 2014, the Glasgow City Region has made substantial investments in transport, connectivity, skills development, business support, and the regeneration of derelict land. Its £1.13 billion City Deal, one of the largest in the UK, has already funded major infrastructure projects, created thousands of jobs, and attracted millions of pounds in private sector investment. This new investment capital will bolster these foundational efforts.
This financial backing is poised to further the Glasgow City Region's shared Regional Economic Strategy. The strategy aims to generate 100,000 additional jobs, foster 6,500 new businesses, significantly improve qualifications and skills, bring thousands of hectares of vacant and derelict land into productive use, and support the construction of 110,000 new homes across the region. The funding underscores a continued commitment to these ambitious targets for regional prosperity.
