We are thrilled to announce that the Dillon Quirke Foundation has successfully raised an impressive €1 million in funding, a substantial milestone that brings us one step closer to our mission of combating Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) in young athletes across Ireland. As a registered charity dedicated to raising awareness about SADS, which tragically claims the lives of approximately 100 young individuals in Ireland each year, our primary goal is to implement widespread cardiac screening for young people aged 12-18 involved in sport. This crucial funding will enable us to expand our efforts, facilitating cardiac screenings that can detect potentially life-threatening heart conditions before they manifest into serious symptoms. Each year, our foundation is motivated by the urgent need to raise awareness and protect young lives, seeing firsthand the impact of SADS on families and communities. With this financial boost, we plan to amplify our educational outreach, engage more schools, clubs, and sporting organizations, and ultimately advocate for mandatory screening of all young athletes. Our vision is to honor Dillon Quirke’s legacy by ensuring that healthy, young sports participants—both male and female—have access to essential cardiac health checks that can save lives. We are grateful for the support we’ve received from our community and partners, and we remain committed to creating a safer environment for all young athletes in Ireland. Together, we can make a significant change and reduce the heart-wrenching toll of SADS, paving the way for a future where every young athlete is screened for potential heart conditions.
