Annovis Bio, Inc. has announced it has secured $6,000,000 in new investment capital from investors. The biopharmaceutical company is dedicated to pioneering novel approaches to combat chronic and acute neurodegenerative diseases, focusing on conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, which represent significant unmet medical needs within the aging population.
At the core of its pipeline is buntanetap, a small, once-daily, orally administered compound designed as a brain-penetrant inhibitor of neurotoxic proteins. Annovis Bio's research indicates that buntanetap has consistently shown a favorable safety profile across seven clinical studies involving over 1,000 people and has demonstrated the ability to normalize levels of several neurotoxic proteins, including APP, tau, and aSYN. The company’s diverse pipeline also targets traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, Down Syndrome, and Huntington disease.
Late-stage trials have shown buntanetap significantly improved cognitive functions in patients with early Alzheimer’s disease and halted cognitive decline while improving motor and non-motor functions in Parkinson’s patients. The company is currently in the process of enrolling patients for its pivotal Phase 3 study in early Alzheimer’s disease in the United States. This funding round is crucial as it will directly support the continued advancement of these critical clinical development programs.
The newly raised capital will be strategically deployed to accelerate the ongoing research and development of buntanetap and other pipeline assets, reinforcing Annovis Bio’s commitment to addressing the underlying mechanisms of neurodegeneration. This investment underscores investor confidence in the company's scientific foundation and its potential to deliver groundbreaking therapies. Annovis Bio believes buntanetap holds the potential to be the first drug of its kind, heralding a new era in the treatment of debilitating neurodegenerative diseases.
