WindBorne Systems has raised $37.0M in a Series B round, a bet that its fleet of AI-guided sensing balloons can make weather forecasting dramatically more precise. The company builds long-duration balloons that gather atmospheric data from hard-to-reach altitudes, then feeds that information into machine-learning models to improve predictions.
The funding arrives as extreme weather events put a premium on accurate, early warnings. WindBorne’s pitch is that its approach-combining proprietary hardware with advanced forecasting-offers a sharper picture than traditional satellite or ground-based systems. The fresh capital will help scale its balloon constellation and refine the AI models, though the company hasn’t detailed specific expansion targets.
