This funding will play a vital role in enabling the organization to lead, inspire, advise, and support both the Australian and global community in conserving this breathtakingly diverse environment for future generations. Established under the Wet Tropics World Heritage Protection and Management Act of 1993, WTMA is dedicated to fulfilling Australia’s commitments to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Convention. The newly acquired funds will be utilized for various initiatives, including enhancing conservation efforts, fostering collaborative partnerships with local communities, and leveraging cultural knowledge to realize the collective vision of safeguarding the unique flora and fauna of the Wet Tropics. The money will also be directed towards educational programs designed to engage the public and instill a passion for this extraordinary World Heritage Area.
