Universal Diagnostics S.A. (UDX), a pioneering Spanish in-vitro diagnostics company, has successfully secured a remarkable €80 million in funding to propel its mission of revolutionizing cancer detection through innovative blood-based solutions. UDX is at the forefront of developing minimally-invasive testing technology aimed at detecting various cancer types at their earliest stages, when survival rates are considerably higher and treatment options more abundant. With a focus on colorectal, prostate, liver, pancreatic, lung, and breast cancers—collectively accounting for over 50% of all new cancer diagnoses each year—UDX is committed to making early detection accessible and efficient. The company's unique diagnostic platform leverages a sophisticated array of proprietary methylation marker panels, enabling the accurate identification of cancer biomarkers from a simple blood sample collected during routine check-ups. This sample can then be analyzed in reference laboratories and hospitals using standard equipment, with results processed through UDX’s advanced Cloud-based algorithmic analysis. The first milestone in their research is a colorectal cancer screening test, which aims to identify individuals at risk and facilitate timely colonoscopy referrals—critical for improving outcomes in a disease notorious for being diagnosed too late. Given that colorectal cancer ranks as the third most frequent and the second deadliest cancer globally, the funding will bolster UDX’s research and development efforts, enhance its operational capabilities, and expand collaborations with top-tier international research institutions, hospitals, universities, and biobanks. Ultimately, UDX is steadfast in its belief that the early detection of cancer is not only possible but necessary in the fight against this devastating disease.
