We are thrilled to announce that Detroit Horse Power (DHP) has successfully raised $1,300,000 to support its mission of transforming the lives of Detroit’s youth through horseback riding and equine education. Since its inception in 2015, DHP has partnered with local barns to provide free summer horse camps and after-school programs designed to teach essential riding skills and horse care, while instilling crucial social-emotional competencies. The foundation of DHP’s approach is built on the PERCS values: Perseverance, Empathy, Responsible Risk-taking, Confidence, and Self-Control. Through these programs, vulnerable children in Detroit are given the unique opportunity to engage with horses, broadening their horizons and enhancing their academic and life success.
This new funding will play a pivotal role in DHP’s long-term vision of establishing an urban equestrian center within Detroit city limits. After entering into an agreement with the Detroit Public Schools Community District in October 2019, DHP is preparing to break ground on a transformative new facility located on a 14-acre site by 2024. This center will not only amplify the impact of DHP’s youth programs but also serve as a community hub, fostering personal growth and resilience in children while revitalizing the neighborhoods they call home. We are immensely grateful for the support of our donors, which enables us to continue paving the way for Detroit’s youth and empowering them to grow into confident and resilient individuals. Together, we are making a lasting difference in the lives of these young riders and their communities.
