ThinkOrbital has secured $100.0 million in funding from investors, marking a significant milestone for the company dedicated to defending, servicing, and building in space. This substantial capital infusion will support the expansion of its revolutionary space superiority capability, ThinkX, which provides long-range X-ray imaging, material characterization, and critical counterspace operations.
The company is actively leading the way in constructing the future of space, from advanced domain awareness to real satellite servicing and the development of huge infrastructure platforms in orbit. ThinkOrbital demonstrated its technological prowess by launching its first spacecraft in May 2024, achieving the first-ever autonomous welding in space, and followed this with a second successful test flight in December 2024. These pioneering achievements underscore its ambition to dominate the rapidly expanding $1.7 trillion space economy.
The newly raised capital is earmarked to accelerate ThinkOrbital's growth initiatives, further develop its advanced on-orbit capabilities, and scale its operational footprint. This investment follows significant validation, including the prestigious NASA Collaborations for Commercial Space Capabilities-2 Award in 2023 and six US Space Force Small Business and Innovative Research Contracts, which include a Tactical Funding Increase for further development of on-orbit X-ray inspection.
Led by Colonel Lee Rosen (US Air Force, Ret), who previously served as VP of Launch, Mission & Customer Operations at SpaceX for 11 years, ThinkOrbital is positioned for substantial expansion. The company plans to leverage this funding to solidify its leadership in constructing the future of space infrastructure and to capture a significant share of the burgeoning space economy in the coming decade.
