SunCubes, a company pioneering energy transfer via laser technology, has secured $11.0 million in a recent funding round. Initiated by Politecnico di Milano engineers, SunCubes is developing an innovative system for long-distance wireless power transmission. This capital infusion marks a significant milestone for the company as it advances its proprietary technology.
The core of SunCubes' innovation lies in its ability to enable wireless power transfer through a laser-emitting generator and a receiver designed to capture energy. A key feature of this system is its integrated safety shut-off mechanism, engineered to protect both wildlife and humans. The viability of this technology has been demonstrated through a recent Proof of Concept (PoC), where it successfully transferred power over 50 meters. SunCubes has also garnered recognition, including winning the 2022 Switch2Product and the Bravo Innovation Hub, and securing a spot in ESA BIC's two-year incubation program.
This newly raised capital will be instrumental in accelerating SunCubes' development efforts and scaling its operations. The company plans to use the funds to expand its research and development initiatives, further refine its laser power transfer system, and prepare for broader market adoption. Following its success in the T-Tec competition, SunCubes is also planning further PoCs with Leonardo Spa, indicating a clear path towards commercialization and strategic partnerships.
