Step Pharma has successfully raised $38,000,000 in its latest funding round, securing investment capital from investors. The company is recognized as a world leader in the discovery and development of inhibitors of CTPS1 (cytidine triphosphate synthase 1) for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases.
Step Pharma's lead program, dencatistat (STP938), is a first-in-class, potent, selective, oral inhibitor of CTPS1 with demonstrated anti-tumor activity. Dencatistat entered clinical development in 2022 with a Phase I/II study for the treatment of relapsed and refractory T-cell and B-cell lymphoma. More recently, a solid tumor study commenced, focusing on ovarian cancer. This study utilizes the concept of synthetic lethality and biomarker selection of patients, with ovarian cancer serving as a proof-of-concept indication for what can ultimately be a tumor-agnostic approach.
This significant capital infusion underscores investor confidence in Step Pharma's innovative therapeutic approach and its clinical pipeline. The company plans to deploy the funds primarily to advance dencatistat through its ongoing clinical trials. This includes supporting the Phase I/II study for lymphoma and further progressing the solid tumor study in ovarian cancer. The investment will also enable the expansion of its research and development efforts into additional indications.
Looking ahead, Step Pharma aims to build on its clinical progress, leveraging this new funding to pursue its mission of developing novel treatments for patients suffering from cancer and autoimmune diseases. Future plans include exploring dencatistat in other tumor types, such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which exhibits a high prevalence of the relevant biomarker, reflecting a broader strategic vision for the therapy.
