SSE Renewables has secured $1.1 billion in funding, marking a significant investment in its renewable energy development and operational capabilities. As a leading developer and operator of renewable energy generation, headquartered in the UK and Ireland with a growing international presence, SSE Renewables is a key part of the FTSE-listed SSE plc. This capital injection supports SSE's Net Zero Acceleration Programme (NZAP), which aims to significantly increase its installed renewable energy capacity.
The funding round is crucial for SSE Renewables as it pursues ambitious targets to grow its installed renewable energy capacity to 9GW by 2027 and over 16GW by 2032. The company currently manages an operational portfolio of approximately 4.5GW, encompassing onshore wind, offshore wind, and hydro generation. This is complemented by a substantial secured future project pipeline of almost 15GW in development, alongside a further prospective pipeline exceeding 13GW.
The newly raised capital will be deployed to accelerate the company's extensive development pipeline and expand its operational capacity across its diverse portfolio. This includes advancing major offshore wind projects, such as the 3.6GW Dogger Bank project in the North Sea, which is set to be the world's largest offshore wind farm. The investment also supports continued development in other areas, building on recent successes like the 1.1GW Seagreen project off the Scottish coast.
With a team of around 1,800 renewable energy professionals, SSE Renewables is committed to delivering the green energy required for a sustainable future. This significant investment underscores the company's role in the global energy transition and positions it to further strengthen its leadership in renewable energy generation, contributing substantially to net-zero targets worldwide.
