Shelfmark has raised $3.5M in seed funding, a bet that manufacturers don’t need another camera-they need a system that learns from what it sees. The Pittsburgh-based startup builds AI-powered inspection platforms for continuous flow production, targeting high-variability environments like industrial film, decorated apparel printing, and coil coating, where defects are costly and manual checks fall short.
The company’s pitch is vertical-specific and hands-on: it sells a full stack-camera, hardware, software, and models-as a managed service, with a monthly charge rather than a hefty upfront cost. Shelfmark’s platform catches defects in real time, maps them to a digital twin of each roll, and uses that history to predict and prevent future issues. The round’s investors weren’t disclosed, but the funding signals growing appetite for AI that moves beyond inspection into process intelligence for American manufacturing.
