Roboto Games has secured $15.0 million in a Series A funding round, led by A16Z. The venture-backed games company focuses on developing inclusive games designed to bring friends together across various gaming platforms, including web and mobile.
The company was founded by industry veterans with prior leadership experience at PopCap, EA, and Space Ape. This is not their first venture, as the team previously founded ZipZapPlay, a web and Facebook gaming company, which was acquired by PopCap. Their mission at Roboto Games is to address the common issues that hinder friends from playing video games together, aiming to significantly improve the social gaming experience.
The newly raised capital will be deployed to accelerate product development and expand the company's operational capabilities. These funds are crucial for advancing Roboto Games' upcoming titles, including a bite-size survival/crafting MMO, which is designed to embody their vision of accessible and engaging social play.
With this investment, Roboto Games is positioned to further its goal of making gaming a more seamless and enjoyable activity for friends, regardless of their differing schedules or preferred platforms. The company anticipates using this funding to enhance its technology and expand its team, driving its growth initiatives and delivering on its commitment to fostering stronger connections through games.
