PoLoPo, a pioneering company at the forefront of sustainable biotechnology, has successfully raised $2.3 million in its latest funding round to propel the development of its innovative plant bio-factory platform. Focused on harnessing the power of directed metabolic engineering, PoLoPo is revolutionizing the production of high-quality proteins, with its initial candidate being egg protein (ovalbumin) derived from edible plants. This exciting venture aims to establish a new standard in protein production that leverages the vast genetic diversity found in plants, leading to the creation of what they term “superAA” plants. These specially engineered plants will not only produce significant quantities of free amino acids but will also facilitate the high-scale production of proteins in their organs. With the newly secured funding, PoLoPo intends to advance to the second phase of its project, wherein these superAA plants will serve as the foundation for the development of a new line of crops designed to express and accumulate target proteins, such as ovalbumin, in their sink organs. This innovative approach addresses the growing global demand for sustainable protein sources while reducing the environmental impact associated with traditional animal farming practices. The funding will assist PoLoPo in refining its technology and accelerating the path toward commercial viability, positioning the company as a leader in plant-based biotechnology and protein production.
