OrganOx Secures $160M to Revolutionize Organ Transplantation with Living Organs for Life Technology

OrganOx is thrilled to announce a landmark funding achievement, having raised US $160,000,000 to further transform the field of organ transplantation under its visionary motto, “Living Organs For Life.” This milestone not only underscores the confidence of our investors but also reinforces our commitment to delivering breakthrough innovations in organ preservation and transplant technology. Over the past 15 years, the OrganOx metra® has evolved as a game-changing solution, spearheaded by Professors Peter Friend and Constantin Coussios, whose pioneering work initially began at the University of Cambridge and later flourished at the University of Oxford. Originating as a spin-out in April 2008 from the University of Oxford, OrganOx has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible in organ maintenance by shifting from conventional cold preservation methods to a revolutionary warm preservation approach. Unlike the conventional method where livers are stored at 4˚C using a non-physiological perfusion solution, our technology continuously perfuses livers at a physiological 37˚C, complete with oxygen-carrying red cells and essential nutrition. This groundbreaking system not only sustains liver functionality—allowing for bile production, glucose metabolism, and pH regulation—but also opens the door for extended preservation times alongside more accurate assessments of organ performance prior to transplant.
