MEDIPOST, Inc., a commercial-stage biotechnology company, has secured $140.0 million in its latest funding round. The capital infusion will support the company's ongoing development of umbilical cord-derived stem cell therapies, particularly its flagship product, CARTISTEM®. MEDIPOST specializes in treatments for inflammation-driven degenerative diseases, leveraging its expertise in regenerative medicine.
CARTISTEM is recognized as the world's first allogeneic stem cell therapy, specifically designed to treat knee cartilage lesions caused by inflammation. Approved in Korea in 2012, it has since been used to treat over 30,000 patients, demonstrating its clinical application and market acceptance. The company is now focused on advancing CARTISTEM through late-stage development in the United States, where it is being evaluated as a potential treatment for cartilage defects associated with knee osteoarthritis.
This significant investment is expected to accelerate MEDIPOST's strategic initiatives, including the progression of CARTISTEM's clinical trials in the U.S. and the expansion of its manufacturing capabilities. In collaboration with the Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine (CCRM), MEDIPOST established OmniaBio, a cell and gene therapy contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) in Hamilton, Ontario, which is crucial for the production of CARTISTEM. The newly raised funds will likely bolster these operational and developmental efforts.
The funding round underscores investor confidence in MEDIPOST's platform technology and its potential to address unmet medical needs in degenerative diseases. With this capital, MEDIPOST is positioned to further its mission of bringing innovative stem cell therapies to a broader patient population and solidifying its leadership in the regenerative medicine sector.
