Founded in 1934 in Union, Washington by Morisen Pixley—a visionary former newspaper man who also established Washington State’s first Public Utility District #1 in Potlatch—the company has evolved considerably over the decades. Initially a modest telephone service provider with 123 customers and ten-party lines, the organization has grown under the leadership of pioneers like Richard (Dick) and Eleanor Buechel, who purchased the company in 1956, transforming it through innovative steps such as the switch to direct distance dialing in 1967 and the development of a community antenna system in 1971. As Hood Canal Communications, the company has continuously expanded its suite of services beyond traditional voice communications, embracing technologies like dial-up, DSL, cable modems, fiber optics, and even offering comprehensive support services including 24-hour tech support, website hosting, and cyber security measures such as SPAM and virus filtering. This new infusion of capital will allow us to further enhance our fiber infrastructure, expand high-speed internet access for residents across Mason County, and explore cutting-edge solutions that meet the ever-growing demands of our community.
