We are thrilled to announce that the U.S. Department of State鈥檚 Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Initiative has successfully raised an impressive $32 million in funding. This significant investment will further empower the next generation of science and technology innovators across more than 130 emerging economies. Since its inception in 2011, GIST has been instrumental in forging connections between U.S. experts and the most promising global entrepreneurs, enabling them to tackle a diverse range of economic and developmental challenges. With this new capital, GIST aims to enhance its existing programs, future-proof its support infrastructure, and expand its reach to empower even more innovators.
The funds will be utilized to expand networking opportunities, enhance skills-building workshops, and provide vital mentoring services, as well as facilitate access to financing for startups. To date, GIST has impacted over 27 million innovation community members globally, training over 15,000 startups that have collectively generated over $250 million in revenue. These incredible achievements were made possible through collaborative competitions, startup training sessions, and engaging interactive online programs, which are implemented in partnership with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and VentureWell. With this fresh influx of funding, GIST is more poised than ever to elevate the global entrepreneurial landscape, signaling a commitment not only to innovation but to sustainable economic development worldwide.
