FineHeart, a clinical stage medical device company based in Bordeaux, France, has successfully raised $56.3 million in new investment capital. This significant funding round will support the continued development of its innovative product, FLOWMAKER®, designed to treat advanced heart failure. The company’s core mission is to address the needs of patients suffering from this severe condition, with FLOWMAKER® holding the potential to assist a substantial patient population.
FLOWMAKER® is described as the first fully intraventricular, wireless flow accelerator that provides physiological support synchronized with the heart's natural contractions. Its design respects natural blood flow and eliminates the need for aortic bypass surgery. The device is miniaturized, adjustable to patient needs like a pacemaker, and features a wireless transcutaneous energy transfer system for recharging, removing the need for an external driveline. Implantation is achieved through a minimally invasive, beating-heart procedure. FineHeart estimates this technology could treat 200,000 patients annually, initially targeting 50,000 of the most severe cases within a market segment valued at over US$5 billion.
The newly secured capital is intended to accelerate the clinical development of FLOWMAKER® and prepare for its market entry. This investment reflects confidence in FineHeart's patented technology and its experienced leadership team, which includes CEO Arnaud Mascarell and internationally renowned cardiac specialists like Dr. Stephane Garrigue and Dr. Philippe Ritter. The company holds an international portfolio of 147 patents across 25 families.
FineHeart benefits from the support of a diverse group of public, private, industrial, and independent investors, including French groups Lauak and Doliam, FineHeart Founders, and investment funds such as Aquiti, Broadview Ventures, Galia, Irdi, M Capital, NACO, UI Investment, and Verve Ventures. Additional financing comes from the European Union (EIC), Bpifrance, and the Nouvelle Aquitaine and Région Centre regions. This collective backing positions FineHeart to advance its innovative solution.
Looking ahead, FineHeart plans to leverage this funding to further its clinical trials and expand its operational capabilities, aiming to bring FLOWMAKER® to patients globally and establish a new standard of care for advanced heart failure.
