Upper Hunter Shire Council is proud to announce the successful raising of $11,250,000 in new funding dedicated to bolstering infrastructure, community services, and regional development throughout the Hunter Region. Located about 250 kilometres north of Sydney, the Upper Hunter Shire is a vibrant and predominantly rural area that spans approximately 8,000 square kilometres of diverse landscapes including national parks and nature reserves. This substantial funding boost will pave the way for enhanced support for local agriculture, tourism, and community initiatives that have long been the backbone of this unique region. With a strong legacy in grazing, dairy farming, horse studs, and general farming, the Shire is also renowned for its major contributions to cattle, crop, goat, pig, poultry, and sheep production, alongside a budding wine scene and an abattoir servicing both domestic and international markets.
The injection of new funds is set to strengthen public services and improve the quality of life across key townships such as Scone, Aberdeen, Merriwa, and Murrurundi, while also enhancing the Shire’s diverse employment opportunities in sectors such as Tourism, Human Resources, Information Technology, Community Services, and Engineering.
