Empowering Indigenous Health: Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Raises $1 Million in Funding

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) has proudly announced a significant funding achievement, successfully raising $1,000,000 to advance its vital mission of delivering comprehensive primary health care services tailored specifically for the Indigenous population of South East Queensland (SEQ). Established in 2009 through the collective efforts of four Community Controlled Health Services, IUIH stands at the forefront of Indigenous health care, empowering local communities to direct and manage healthcare initiatives that reflect their cultural values and specific needs. This new influx of funding will bolster ongoing projects and expand the IUIH Model of Care, which prioritizes community involvement in health service delivery by Indigenous Australians for Indigenous Australians. The funding will facilitate the enhancement of current health services, address barriers to access, and promote a holistic approach to well-being among the diverse Indigenous communities in SEQ, which is home to Australia’s second-largest Indigenous population. The members of IUIH, including esteemed organizations such as ATSICHS Brisbane Limited, Kalwun Development Corporation, and Kambu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health, are united in their vision for a healthier future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As IUIH forges ahead with this new financial backing, it reaffirms its commitment to fostering healthier communities and improving health outcomes through culturally appropriate, community-led initiatives.
