Disability Rights Louisiana Secures Impressive Funding for Expansion and Advocacy Mission

Disability Rights Louisiana (DRLA), an esteemed 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities and senior citizens, is proud to announce a significant funding initiative that promises to enhance our vital services across the state. Having successfully raised $1.5 million in this latest fundraising effort, DRLA aims to bolster its comprehensive advocacy programs through direct legal representation, community education, and training initiatives. Established in 1977 under federal law to oversee protection and advocacy systems, DRLA has evolved from a modest operation in New Orleans with just four staff members to a robust organization with a $3.8 million budget and a dedicated team of 50 professionals operating from multiple locations throughout Louisiana. This new funding will play a critical role in expanding our outreach while refining the services that we provide to our clients—people living with disabilities or seniors who are often vulnerable and underserved. With this strategic investment, Disability Rights Louisiana is excited to deepen our commitment to empowering individuals, ensuring their voices are heard, and, most importantly, protecting their rights. Our name change in February 2020 from Advocacy Center of Louisiana to Disability Rights Louisiana reflects our dedication to clarifying our mission and aligning with a national network focused on advancing disability rights.
