CIL in Central Florida Raises $1.22M in Grant Round to Empower People with Disabilities

The Center for Independent Living in Central Florida (CIL) is thrilled to announce the successful raising of $1,220,000 in funding, aimed at bolstering its ongoing mission to empower individuals with disabilities across the region. Founded in 1976, CIL is dedicated to helping people achieve their self-determined goals for independent living through a consumer-driven approach, featuring peer role models who inspire and support those in need. This significant infusion of funds will enable CIL to strengthen its core services, including employment assistance, housing counseling, accessibility services, and mental health support, while also expanding its outreach and resources for the deaf community. Furthermore, the funding will enhance the Aging in Place program, ensuring that seniors with disabilities can continue residing safely and comfortably in their homes. With this financial boost, CIL reaffirms its commitment to eliminating barriers—be they architectural, communicative, or attitudinal—that hinder full participation in society. Serving seven counties—Seminole, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Hardee, Highlands, and DeSoto—CIL remains the only nonprofit in Central Florida exclusively focused on providing the necessary resources and training to foster self-determination and informed choice.
