Bind-X, an established production company in the industrial biotechnology sector, has secured $11.0 million in funding from investors. The company specialises in using biological binding of materials to decarbonise various industries while enhancing their profitability. Primarily focused on the mining sector, Bind-X develops and produces biological binders for dust control and road stabilisation on mine sites, addressing the industry's significant water usage for dust suppression.
The company's technology offers a proven solution to reduce water usage by over 90% for dust control, simultaneously enhancing road quality and supporting decarbonisation efforts. This is achieved through biocementation, a natural process that transforms sand into a solid layer, which is entirely non-toxic for people, plants, and waterways. This method provides substantial advantages over traditional, less environmentally safe alternatives like water, salts, polymers, or bitumen blends. Beyond environmental benefits, Bind-X's solutions also offer significant cost savings for mining companies by reducing rehabilitation costs and operational expenses, thereby enhancing productivity.
Bind-X's Terrabind product portfolio includes five patented formulations tailored for specific mine use cases and climatic conditions, ranging from stabilising high-traffic haulage roads to preventing erosion from tailings storage facilities. Its Terrabind Ultimate product is noted as the only wet-stable biological dust control product on the market, offering an alternative to crude-oil based bitumen blends. The newly secured capital is earmarked to accelerate the company's growth initiatives, including scaling production capabilities, expanding its global commercial footprint, and advancing its research and development efforts.
Headquartered with an R&D centre near Munich, Germany, and operating a production facility and commercial hub in South Africa, alongside a logistics hub in Western Australia, Bind-X is positioned for further expansion. This investment is intended to support Bind-X's mission to provide sustainable and cost-effective solutions, driving its continued growth and impact in the industrial biotechnology sector globally.
