Rebuy Engine has acquired Zeercle for an undisclosed amount, bringing the buy-back platform under its ownership in a deal finalized this week. The transaction marks the first major consolidation in the recommerce technology space this year, with Rebuy Engine absorbing Zeercle’s operations and client base.
Zeercle offers a one-stop buy-back solution that lets retailers integrate a second-hand trade-in service directly into their existing storefronts. Its platform allows customers to sell unused items back to merchants at no cost to the seller, with Zeercle handling logistics, pricing, and resale. Rebuy Engine, which provides AI-driven product recommendation and personalization tools for e-commerce, will now fold Zeercle’s reverse logistics capabilities into its own suite.
The acquisition is strategic for Rebuy Engine, which has focused on optimizing the point of sale but lacked a native solution for post-purchase circularity. By owning Zeercle, Rebuy Engine can offer its retail partners a closed loop: recommend new products, then facilitate the return and resale of old ones. This positions the combined entity to compete more directly with larger sustainability-focused platforms that bundle both forward and reverse commerce.
For Zeercle, the deal provides access to Rebuy Engine’s established merchant network, which spans mid-sized online retailers across multiple sectors. Zeercle’s technology will remain operational under its current brand for existing clients, but new integrations will be marketed under Rebuy Engine’s umbrella. The companies have not disclosed whether Zeercle’s team will remain intact, though the acquisition includes all intellectual property and customer contracts.
The combined entity will target retailers seeking to add buy-back programs without building the infrastructure themselves. Rebuy Engine plans to cross-sell Zeercle’s service to its current users while expanding into new verticals such as electronics and apparel. With the deal closed, the focus shifts to integration timelines and how quickly the two platforms can be unified under a single API.
