Mercedes-Benz AG has acquired YASA, a pioneering UK-based developer of high-performance axial flux eMotor technology, for an undisclosed amount. This strategic acquisition underscores Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to advancing its electric vehicle capabilities. YASA is renowned for its innovative axial flux motors, which feature a proprietary 'Yokeless And Segmented Armature' design. This technology allows for motors that are up to four times more powerful and approximately 50% smaller and lighter than many conventional electric vehicle motors, providing exceptional efficiency, power, and torque density.

With development and manufacturing sites in Oxfordshire and Welshpool, YASA has already made its mark in eMotor applications across multiple sectors, including automotive, marine, and defense. The company's expertise will be crucial for Mercedes-Benz as it accelerates the development of axial flux eMotors and control systems for its next generation of electric vehicles. Mercedes-Benz AG, a global automotive leader, is deeply invested in electrifying its model range, particularly its high-performance AMG series. Integrating YASA's technology will allow Mercedes-Benz to enhance its in-house e-drive capabilities.

The acquisition is expected to yield significant synergies. YASA’s compact, powerful, and efficient motors are poised to deliver superior performance characteristics, improved vehicle design flexibility, and potentially extended range for future Mercedes-Benz EVs. This direct integration of YASA’s cutting-edge technology into Mercedes-Benz's development and production processes aims to solidify a competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving electric mobility landscape. This grants Mercedes-Benz direct access to and control over a critical differentiating technology for high-performance electric powertrains.

As a wholly owned subsidiary, YASA’s continued innovation will be fully aligned with Mercedes-Benz's strategic vision. The combined entity is set to further advance the development and scale-up of axial flux eMotors, reinforcing Mercedes-Benz’s ambition to be a leader in electric drivetrain technology and high-performance electric vehicles globally.
