Daktronics has acquired XDC, a comprehensive provider of digital cinema services, for an undisclosed amount. This corporate acquisition sees Daktronics taking full ownership of XDC, integrating its extensive capabilities into the acquiring entity. XDC specializes in end-to-end digital cinema solutions, encompassing financial offers, system deployment, ongoing maintenance, training, content management, and network services.
Since 2004, XDC has been instrumental in deploying digital cinema systems across theatres, offering an agnostic range of equipment. The company holds VPF contracts with the six major Hollywood studios, enabling it to provide the virtual print fee financing model to exhibitors. XDC's operational backbone includes a 24/7 Network Operations Centre (NOC) that delivers outstanding maintenance, on-site and online support, helpdesk services, and monitoring for screens throughout Europe.
The strategic rationale behind this acquisition centers on XDC's established market presence and its full suite of digital media services. These include DCI mastering, KDM management, content delivery via satellite and terrestrial solutions, localization, and cross-platform formatting. XDC also actively sources, produces, and distributes alternative content. Its role as an "Official Partner" of the Locarno Film Festival and "Technical partner" of the Cannes Film Festival underscores its industry standing. This integration is expected to create synergies by combining XDC's specialized digital cinema expertise with Daktronics' broader business objectives, expanding reach and service offerings within the entertainment technology sector.
Looking ahead, the combined entity is poised to leverage XDC's robust infrastructure and service portfolio to enhance its position in the evolving digital cinema landscape. The acquisition aims to deliver more integrated and comprehensive solutions to exhibitors and content providers, fostering continued innovation and operational efficiency in the global digital cinema market.
