Karman Space & Defense has acquired Walker Group for $94.0 million. The transaction, which closed earlier this week, brings the UK-based contract manufacturer under the ownership of the US defense supplier. Walker Group will operate as a standalone business unit within Karman’s existing portfolio.
Walker Group is a technology-led contract manufacturer serving global markets across defence, telecommunications, aerospace, optoelectronics, space, food processing, medical, and general engineering. Its capabilities include precision machining, design support, electro-mechanical assembly, cleanroom build, plating, and painting. Karman Space & Defense, a provider of mission-critical components and systems for the aerospace and defense industry, is acquiring these assets to broaden its manufacturing footprint and technical service offering.
The acquisition is driven by Karman’s need to expand its supply chain capacity for complex, high-tolerance components used in defense and space programs. Walker Group’s cleanroom assembly and plating capabilities are particularly relevant, as they complement Karman’s existing machining and fabrication work. By integrating Walker’s engineering-led approach, Karman aims to shorten lead times for customers requiring both mechanical and electro-mechanical production under one roof.
Walker Group’s management team will remain in place, and its current facility will continue operations without interruption. Karman has stated that the acquisition will not result in immediate changes to Walker’s workforce or customer contracts. The deal also gives Karman a direct presence in the UK, which may support future work with European defense primes.
The combined entity will now offer a wider range of manufacturing services, from raw material processing to finished assemblies, across two continents. Karman’s financial resources and program management expertise are expected to help Walker pursue larger contracts in the space and defense sectors. The integration process will focus on aligning quality systems and procurement practices over the coming quarters.
