Groupe Compagnie des Alpes

Groupe Compagnie des Alpes has acquired Urban Group Real Estate for $149.9 million. The transaction, completed under a definitive agreement, transfers full ownership of the San Francisco-based brokerage to the French group, which is known primarily for its leisure and tourism operations. The deal was finalized in cash, according to the terms disclosed by both parties.

Urban Group Real Estate specializes in investment property sales and commercial leasing across several San Francisco neighborhoods, including the Mission District, Hayes Valley, NoPa, SoMa, Dogpatch, and Potrero Hill. Its team focuses on mixed-use properties, multifamily buildings, development sites, and commercial spaces such as retail, creative office, and industrial or PDR units. Since its founding in 2010, the firm has built a network of owners, investors, and brokers, with an emphasis on evolving marketing strategies for client properties.

For Groupe Compagnie des Alpes, the acquisition broadens its portfolio beyond its core business of ski resorts, amusement parks, and cultural venues. The company has been diversifying its revenue streams, and the purchase of a real estate brokerage in a high-value urban market offers a new avenue for growth. The strategic rationale centers on gaining a foothold in the commercial property sector of a major U.S. city, leveraging Urban Group’s local expertise and established client relationships.

The combined entity is expected to integrate Urban Group’s brokerage operations into Groupe Compagnie des Alpes’ broader asset management activities. While the French group has no prior real estate brokerage experience, it plans to retain Urban Group’s existing team and leadership to maintain continuity. The acquisition provides Groupe Compagnie des Alpes with direct access to San Francisco’s commercial leasing and sales market, a segment that operates independently from its leisure-focused holdings.

The deal positions Groupe Compagnie des Alpes to generate recurring income from property transactions and leasing commissions, complementing its seasonal tourism earnings. Urban Group will continue to operate under its current name, with its San Francisco offices remaining in place. The acquisition is expected to close without regulatory hurdles, and both companies have indicated that no major operational changes are planned for the near term.
