Allianz Global Investors has acquired UOB Asset Management (UOBAM) from United Overseas Bank for an undisclosed amount. The transaction transfers full ownership of the Singapore-based asset manager, which was established in 1986 and operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Southeast Asian banking group.

UOBAM manages a diversified portfolio of retail unit trusts, exchange-traded funds, and customised institutional portfolio services. The firm maintains a regional footprint across Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, alongside a joint venture with China’s Ping An Trust and a strategic alliance with Wellington Management Singapore. Its team of more than 80 investment professionals has accumulated over 380 regional industry awards since inception. Allianz Global Investors, a global active asset manager, brings its own multi-asset capabilities and distribution network to the combination.

The acquisition is designed to expand Allianz Global Investors’ presence in Asian retail and institutional markets, particularly in Southeast Asia, where UOBAM holds established local relationships and product expertise. For UOBAM, the move provides access to Allianz’s broader global research platform and investment infrastructure. The deal also allows United Overseas Bank to refocus on its core banking operations while retaining a distribution partnership for investment products.

Post-completion, the combined entity will integrate UOBAM’s regional offices and product suite into Allianz Global Investors’ existing framework. The enlarged operation is expected to offer a wider range of strategies across equities, fixed income, and multi-asset classes to clients in both established and emerging Asian markets. Regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions remain pending, with the parties indicating a completion timeline in the coming months. The transaction underscores a consolidation trend among asset managers seeking scale in Asia’s increasingly competitive wealth management sector.
