Warburg Pincus LLC has acquired Universal NutriScience Pvt Ltd (UNS) for an undisclosed amount. The transaction transfers full ownership of the Mumbai-based nutraceutical company to the global private equity firm, marking its entry into India’s fast-growing dietary supplement sector.
UNS operates as a manufacturer and marketer of nutraceutical and lifestyle products, with a portfolio that includes pioneering formulations in segments such as immunity, joint care, and daily wellness. The company’s operations are closely tied to its sister concern, Universal Medicare, which provides access to advanced research and development laboratories and large-scale production facilities. Universal Medicare has served as a contract developer and manufacturer for over three decades, giving UNS a vertically integrated supply chain and quality assurance framework.
For Warburg Pincus, the acquisition provides a platform to consolidate a position in India’s preventive healthcare market, which has expanded steadily as consumer awareness of nutritional supplements grows. The firm’s strategy involves scaling UNS’s existing product lines while introducing new delivery formats and formulations. The deal also gives Warburg Pincus control over a manufacturing base that can support domestic demand and potential export opportunities, without the need to build infrastructure from scratch.
The acquisition is expected to accelerate UNS’s product development cycle, leveraging the parent firm’s capital and operational expertise. Management continuity is anticipated, with the existing team remaining in place to execute the growth plan. The combined entity will focus on expanding distribution networks across pharmacies and e-commerce channels, while maintaining the regulatory compliance standards that have defined UNS’s market reputation.
Post-transaction, UNS is positioned to broaden its research pipeline and scale production capacity in response to rising demand. The company’s ability to launch novel drug delivery systems will likely become a key differentiator, supported by the financial resources and governance framework of its new owner.
