PrimeSource Building Products

PrimeSource Building Products has acquired Starborn Industries, Inc., a New Jersey-based manufacturer and distributor of specialty fasteners for the residential deck construction market. The transaction was completed for an undisclosed amount, and the deal brings the family-owned fastener specialist under the umbrella of the larger building products supplier.

Starborn, founded in Brooklyn in 1961, began as a wood products factory before pivoting to fasteners in the early 1980s as drywall screws gained prominence. Over the past three decades, the company has designed and marketed its own line of fastener products tailored specifically for deck construction, a niche it helped define by emphasizing the role of fasteners in deck stability and longevity. Today, Starborn operates from a modern warehouse and distribution facility in Edison, New Jersey, with a dedicated sales and marketing team, and distributes internationally across Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and Australia.

For PrimeSource, a major supplier of building products, the acquisition adds a specialized, brand-recognized fastener line to its existing portfolio. The move is strategic in that it broadens PrimeSource’s reach into the residential decking segment, where Starborn has established a national presence and a reputation for product innovation. Starborn’s second-generation leadership will transition the company into PrimeSource’s operational structure, which is expected to leverage PrimeSource’s larger distribution network to expand Starborn’s market penetration.

The combined entity is positioned to strengthen its offering to contractors and retailers, with Starborn’s niche expertise complementing PrimeSource’s scale. Starborn’s international distribution channels may also open new avenues for PrimeSource’s broader product lines. The deal is expected to close without disruption to existing customer relationships, and both companies have indicated a focus on maintaining product continuity during the transition.
