FGE NexantECA has acquired Square Commodities, the Swiss-based provider of renewable fuels market intelligence, for an undisclosed amount. The deal brings the independent analytical firm, founded in 2012 by Olivier Pellegrinelli, under the ownership of the larger energy consultancy group, which combines FGE’s refining and oil market expertise with NexantECA’s downstream chemicals and energy advisory practice.

Square Commodities, headquartered in Switzerland, specialises in monitoring and anticipating regulatory changes across global low-carbon fuels markets. Its core offering, the SquareCo Renewable Fuels Intelligence Platform launched in 2023, provides clients with real-time updates on policy shifts, country-level regulatory overviews, and market impact assessments. The company has built a broad network of contacts within ministries, national agencies, biofuels associations, and industry players, and its analyses are read by oil majors, trading houses, brokers, and governmental bodies across Europe, the US, South America, and Asia.

For FGE NexantECA, the acquisition adds a dedicated regulatory intelligence capability to its existing suite of energy market services. The move is intended to strengthen the combined group’s coverage of the rapidly evolving biofuels and low-carbon fuels sector, where policy complexity often creates barriers for market participants. By integrating Square Commodities’ data and analytical tools, FGE NexantECA aims to offer clients a more complete view of both conventional fuel markets and the regulatory frameworks shaping their transition.

The transaction also secures continuity for Square Commodities’ existing client base, as the firm’s founder and team are expected to remain involved in the business. The acquisition does not involve any external funding round; it is a straightforward purchase of the company by FGE NexantECA, which will assume ownership of Square Commodities’ operations, platform, and client relationships.

With the integration underway, the combined entity is positioned to expand its advisory services across the full energy value chain, from crude and refined products to renewable fuels and chemicals. The addition of Square Commodities’ regulatory monitoring capabilities is likely to enhance FGE NexantECA’s ability to support clients navigating policy-driven market shifts, particularly as global fuel standards continue to tighten.
