Sony has acquired PIXOMONDO, a leading provider of Virtual Production and Visual Effects services, for an undisclosed amount. This acquisition formalizes the relationship between the two entities, as PIXOMONDO has previously operated as a Sony Pictures Entertainment company. The move integrates PIXOMONDO's advanced creative and technological capabilities directly into Sony's broader entertainment portfolio.
PIXOMONDO, established in 2001, is renowned for its industry-leading work on premium Film and Episodic content, earning over 20 industry awards and nominations. Its portfolio includes acclaimed projects such as Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, HBO’s Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, Amazon’s The Boys, and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The company specializes in Virtual Production, utilizing interactive technology and proprietary software to immerse filmmakers in imagined worlds throughout the creative process. Its LED volume work has been featured in productions like House of the Dragon, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender. PIXOMONDO operates seven studios and three LED volumes across the US, UK, Germany, and Canada.
The acquisition is strategically significant for Sony, aiming to enhance its in-house production capabilities and strengthen its position in cutting-edge content creation. By fully integrating PIXOMONDO's expertise in virtual production and visual effects, Sony can leverage these advanced technologies across its diverse content divisions, from film and television to potentially other interactive entertainment platforms. This move is expected to drive greater efficiency and innovation in content development and production workflows.
The combined entity is poised to deliver even more immersive and visually stunning content, capitalizing on PIXOMONDO's technological prowess and Sony's extensive global reach and creative ecosystem. This integration is anticipated to further solidify Sony's competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving entertainment landscape.
