KCB Group has acquired Pesapal for an undisclosed amount, integrating one of Africa's leading payment services providers into its expansive financial services portfolio. Pesapal, established in 2009, has built a significant presence across Africa, empowering tens of thousands of businesses and entrepreneurs to process online and in-person payments through mobile, card, and bank transfers. The company also offers a suite of digital tools including ticketing, reservations, reporting, inventory management, and merchant credit solutions. Pesapal is regulated by the Central Banks of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, and currently processes up to 12 million transactions monthly.
This acquisition marks a strategic move for KCB Group to significantly enhance its digital payment capabilities and expand its footprint in the rapidly evolving African fintech landscape. By bringing Pesapal into its operations, KCB gains immediate access to a robust payment infrastructure, a broad merchant network, and specialized local expertise in payment challenges across key African markets. The integration is expected to bolster KCB's offerings for businesses and consumers, providing more streamlined and comprehensive financial solutions.
The synergy between KCB Group's established financial services strength and Pesapal's innovative payment technologies is clear. Pesapal’s commitment to connecting African entrepreneurs and customers to electronic payments and e-commerce aligns with KCB’s broader financial inclusion goals. The combined entity will be better positioned to offer an integrated ecosystem of banking and digital payment services, from point-of-sale and online transactions to business credit and various digital tools, fostering greater efficiency for businesses and convenience for consumers.
Looking ahead, the acquisition aims to accelerate product innovation and drive digital transformation within the region's financial sector. The unified entity is poised to deliver expanded access to electronic payments and e-commerce, supporting economic growth and deepening financial inclusion for a broader base of African businesses and individuals.
