StarFish Medical has acquired Omnica Corporation for an undisclosed amount. This corporate acquisition sees one medical device development firm buying another to expand capabilities and market presence.
Omnica, a privately-held design, engineering, and medical product development firm based in Irvine, California, brings nearly four decades of experience. Since 1984, the 28-person company has specialized in custom development of complex medical devices for the medical and industrial fields, ranging from surgical instruments and disposables to diagnostic and monitoring equipment. Its team includes industrial designers, various engineers, regulatory staff, and model makers, capable of handling projects from concepting to prototyping, with a strong focus on FDA documentation and regulatory compliance.
This acquisition marks a strategic expansion for StarFish Medical, broadening its geographic footprint and enhancing its comprehensive service offerings within the highly specialized medical device sector. Omnica’s deep expertise in developing technically complex projects, often taking six to eighteen months, coupled with its established regulatory knowledge, is expected to significantly complement StarFish Medical's existing capabilities. The addition of Omnica's experienced team and robust in-house prototyping facilities will bolster the combined entity's capacity to deliver end-to-end medical product development solutions.
The integration of Omnica's specialized skills and long-standing client relationships is anticipated to create significant synergies, allowing the combined organization to serve a wider range of clients and tackle more intricate development challenges in the medical device space. Both companies share a commitment to rapid medical device development and designing for compliance with standards such as CE, UL, and TUV. Looking ahead, the acquisition is expected to strengthen the combined entity's position as a comprehensive partner for medical device innovation, offering enhanced resources and expanded geographical reach to meet evolving industry demands.
