XRG, an investment arm of ADNOC Group, has acquired NextDecade for an undisclosed amount. This corporate acquisition sees XRG taking ownership of the Houston, Texas-headquartered company, a prominent developer of lower-carbon energy solutions with a significant focus on liquefied natural gas (LNG) export. NextDecade's common stock is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbol “NEXT.”
NextDecade is committed to providing access to reliable, lower-carbon energy, with approximately 48 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of potential liquefaction capacity currently under construction and in development at its Rio Grande LNG site. This positions NextDecade as one of the largest LNG liquefaction and export companies globally. The company also operates NEXT Carbon Solutions, which is advancing proprietary processes aimed at lowering the cost of utilizing carbon capture and storage (CCS). Its operations in South Texas contribute to thousands of jobs and economic growth, supporting global energy security.
This acquisition represents a strategic expansion for XRG into the burgeoning U.S. LNG market and lower-carbon energy sector. The combination is expected to create synergies by integrating XRG’s investment capabilities and global reach with NextDecade’s advanced liquefaction infrastructure and carbon capture technologies. This move is anticipated to strengthen the acquiring company’s energy portfolio and further NextDecade’s development of large-scale LNG export facilities and innovative carbon solutions.
The combined entity is poised to enhance its position in the global energy market, aiming to meet growing demand for reliable, lower-carbon energy while continuing to develop significant energy infrastructure and related environmental technologies.
