Torrent Power Ltd has acquired Nabha Power Limited, a company wholly owned by L&T, for $7,000. Nabha Power operates a Supercritical Thermal Power Plant located in Rajpura, Patiala district of Punjab, serving as a crucial source of electricity for the state. This transaction marks a significant expansion for Torrent Power in the energy generation sector.
Nabha Power Limited is recognized for its operational excellence, providing the lowest-cost source of quality electricity among thermal power plants in Punjab. Its plant is noted for a low heat rate and efficient power generation technologies, contributing to energy conservation and making it one of the most eco-friendly power producers, as acknowledged by the Punjab Energy Development Authority (PEDA). The company has received numerous accolades, including the “National Energy Conservation Award” and the “National Energy Leader Award,” and was a finalist for the “Standard & Poor’s Global Platts Energy Excellence Award.” Beyond its core operations, Nabha Power has also implemented extensive corporate social responsibility initiatives across 49 villages, earning the National Golden Peacock Corporate Social Responsibility award.
