DigiCert has acquired Mocana for an undisclosed amount, strengthening its capabilities in on-device cybersecurity for connected devices and critical infrastructure.
DigiCert is a leading provider of digital trust, specializing in TLS/SSL certificates, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and digital identity solutions for a wide range of applications, including IoT and connected devices. Its DigiCert ONE platform offers comprehensive certificate lifecycle management and software signing. Mocana, founded in 2002, provides on-device cybersecurity software and a lifecycle management platform for IoT, operational technology (OT), and critical infrastructure. Its technology enables manufacturers and industrial companies to build tamper-resistant, self-defending systems, ensuring end-to-end trust from manufacturing to deployment and protecting against cyber breaches. Mocana protects more than 100 million commercial, government, and military/defense devices.
This acquisition is a strategic move for DigiCert to enhance its existing device trust offerings. While DigiCert secures the digital identity and lifecycle of connected devices through PKI, Mocana's expertise lies in deep embedded device protection, ensuring the integrity and security of the devices themselves against malware and tampering. The combination of DigiCert's digital trust and identity management with Mocana's robust on-device security capabilities will enable a more comprehensive, end-to-end solution for securing the vast and growing ecosystem of IoT, OT, and critical infrastructure. This integration aims to minimize cyber risk and ensure compliance across complex industrial and commercial environments.
The combined entity will offer an expanded portfolio that integrates digital identity, certificate management, and granular on-device security, providing manufacturers and operators with comprehensive tools to build, deploy, and manage trusted, self-defending systems. This move is expected to solidify DigiCert’s position in securing the digital landscape by extending its trust solutions deeper into the device layer, from initial manufacturing to ongoing operational integrity.
