First Nordic Metals has acquired Mawson Finland Limited for an undisclosed amount. Mawson Finland is a mineral exploration and development company focused on gold and cobalt resources in the Lapland Region of Finland. Its primary asset is the 100%-owned Rajapalot Project, located 30 kilometers from Rovaniemi, which benefits from excellent existing infrastructure. This corporate acquisition integrates Mawson Finland's exploration capabilities and key resource projects into First Nordic Metals' portfolio.
First Nordic Metals, operating as a Nordic-focused gold development and exploration company, has strategically bought Mawson Finland to consolidate its presence in the region. The Rajapalot Project includes an inferred resource of 9,780,000 tonnes containing 867,000 ounces of gold and 4,311 tonnes of cobalt, with grades of 2.8 g/t gold and 441 ppm cobalt. This project has a completed PEA indicating an NPV5% of US$211 million and a 27% IRR, representing a significant strategic asset for the acquiring company. Mawson Finland also maintains an active local presence with Finnish staff and strong community ties.
This acquisition is expected to create a more robust entity, leveraging First Nordic Metals' development expertise with Mawson Finland’s exploration success. Synergies include de-risking and expanding the Rajapalot Project, aiming to increase its resource base through further exploration of its underexplored land package. The combination enhances the potential for increased resource value and accelerated project advancement in a tier-1 mining jurisdiction. The integration of Mawson's local operational experience is also a key component of the strategic rationale.
The combined entity is positioned to significantly advance the Rajapalot gold-cobalt project. This corporate acquisition underscores a commitment to developing strategic mineral resources in the Nordic region, aiming to become a leading player in gold and cobalt exploration and development in Finland.
