Law Business Research Ltd (LBR)/ALM has acquired LegalGeek, a global platform known for its world-class legal technology events and community, for an undisclosed amount. LegalGeek, founded in 2015, established itself by cultivating a vibrant legal tech startup community and has since expanded to host high-energy conferences that gather a diverse mix of legal professionals, tech innovators, government leaders, and investors. This transaction clearly signifies a corporate acquisition, integrating LegalGeek into the LBR/ALM portfolio.
LegalGeek's event portfolio includes the acclaimed Legal Geek Conference, often referred to as "The Glastonbury of Legal," alongside Legal Geek North America, Legal Geek Growth, and Legal Geek Europe. These events are designed to foster learning, networking, and innovation across various segments of the legal profession, from large law firms to SME law firms. The company also played a role in driving UK legal tech transformation through its involvement with LawtechUK, supported by a £3 million grant from the Ministry of Justice.
The acquisition is strategically significant for LBR/ALM, an established provider of legal information services with brands such as Legal Week and Law.com. By integrating LegalGeek, LBR/ALM aims to leverage its unique event expertise and community engagement model. This move is expected to accelerate LegalGeek’s global expansion by providing access to ALM’s established resources and market reach, broadening the impact of its distinct, festival-style events. The synergy between the two entities lies in combining LegalGeek’s specialized focus on legal innovation with LBR/ALM’s extensive legal media and information services network.
Looking ahead, the acquisition strengthens the commitment to fostering legal innovation and collaboration. The combined resources are anticipated to drive further engagement across the legal tech ecosystem, supporting LegalGeek's mission to make a positive impact and expand its global footprint. LegalGeek’s management team, including Jimmy Vestbirk and Beth Fellner, will continue to lead the business, now supported by the broader LBR/ALM organization.
