BNP Paribas Cardif has acquired IndiaFirst Life for an undisclosed amount. This corporate acquisition marks a significant strategic move, bringing the established Indian life insurance provider under the ownership of BNP Paribas Cardif. This is a direct purchase of IndiaFirst Life by BNP Paribas Cardif.

IndiaFirst Life, which launched its operations in November 2009 as the 22nd entrant in the Indian life insurance industry, has built a robust presence and achieved profitability early. It is notably promoted by two large public-sector banks, Bank of Baroda, holding a 65% stake, and Union Bank of India, with a 9% stake. The footprint and experience offered by these entities have consistently fortified the value proposition IndiaFirst Life offers to all stakeholders. Carmel Point Investments India Private Limited, owned by private equity funds managed by Warburg Pincus LLC, holds the remaining 26%. The company declared its maiden profits in FY 2014-15, distinguishing itself as one of the few life insurance companies in India to break even within five years of its inception.

The acquisition is strategically driven by IndiaFirst Life's extensive market penetration and modern operational approach. Its footprint today extends to over 1000 cities and towns across India, supported by more than 12,000 points of sale. A key competitive advantage for IndiaFirst Life is its "CustomerFirst" ideology, which underpins state-of-the-art digitalization initiatives across its complete value chain, delivering value through new-age intuitiveness. These established capabilities and market reach present a compelling opportunity for BNP Paribas Cardif to expand its presence in the Indian insurance landscape.

This transaction is expected to generate significant synergies, combining BNP Paribas Cardif's operational framework with IndiaFirst Life's deep understanding of the Indian market and its digital prowess. The integration aims to fortify the value proposition offered to stakeholders and expand service offerings. The combined entity is now positioned to further strengthen its competitive standing in the dynamic Indian life insurance sector, leveraging IndiaFirst Life's established brand, extensive distribution network, and technological advancements under new ownership.
