ExxonMobil has acquired HELLENiQ ENERGY for an undisclosed amount, a move that significantly expands the global energy giant's footprint in Southeast Europe. HELLENiQ ENERGY, a leading energy company in the region with over five decades of operation, has been actively transforming from a traditional oil company into one operating across the full energy spectrum, including substantial investments in new energy solutions.
HELLENiQ ENERGY maintains robust core operations in refining, supply, and trading of liquid fuels and chemicals, supported by an extensive retail network through its EKO subsidiary in Greece and internationally. The company is highly export-oriented, with 54% of its total sales in 2024 attributed to exports. Its "Vision 2025" strategy outlines €4 billion in investments by 2028, specifically targeting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainability, encompassing ventures in photovoltaic and wind parks, energy storage, CO2 capture, and green hydrogen.
This acquisition is strategically significant for ExxonMobil, allowing it to integrate HELLENiQ ENERGY's established regional presence and diversified operational assets. The synergy is expected to accelerate ExxonMobil's participation in the evolving energy landscape, particularly through HELLENiQ ENERGY's advanced projects and strategic focus on decarbonization and new energy technologies. This integration will enhance ExxonMobil's diversified energy portfolio and strengthen its regional market access.
The combined entity is poised to leverage HELLENiQ ENERGY's strong market position and its commitment to energy transition, alongside ExxonMobil's global scale and resources. This aims to create a more resilient and forward-looking energy enterprise, capable of delivering both conventional energy products and pioneering sustainable solutions across Southeast Europe and beyond.
