The Peel Group has acquired Harworth Group plc for $784.3 million, taking full ownership of the UK-based land and property regeneration company. The transaction, which has been completed following regulatory approval, transfers all shares of Harworth from the London Stock Exchange to the private portfolio of the Peel Group.
Harworth Group plc specialises in the regeneration of approximately 15,000 acres across around 100 sites in the North of England and the Midlands. Its portfolio includes flagship developments such as Waverley in Rotherham and Logistics North in Bolton, alongside established business parks, agricultural estates, and low carbon energy projects. The company works with local authorities and communities to deliver new homes, jobs, and sustainable places, with many sites progressing through the planning system for mixed-use development.
The Peel Group, a privately held owner and developer of property and infrastructure assets, brings substantial experience in large-scale land management and long-term placemaking. The acquisition aligns with Peel’s existing focus on strategic land holdings and its track record of advancing complex regeneration schemes. For Harworth, the move provides access to private capital and a longer investment horizon, which may support the progression of its pipeline without the quarterly reporting constraints of public markets.
The combined entity is expected to consolidate expertise in land remediation, planning, and infrastructure delivery. Peel’s broader portfolio, which includes ports, energy, and commercial property, could offer new opportunities for Harworth’s sites, particularly in the areas of logistics and low carbon energy. The deal also removes the costs and administrative burden associated with a public listing, allowing management to focus on operational execution.
With the acquisition complete, the focus now shifts to integrating Harworth’s team and site portfolio into Peel’s existing operations. The near-term priority will be maintaining momentum on active developments while assessing how Peel’s resources can accelerate the delivery of Harworth’s pipeline. The long-term outlook for the combined business is centred on deepening its role in regional regeneration, with a particular emphasis on industrial and energy-related land uses.
