ASSA ABLOY Group has acquired Gunnebo Entrance Control for an undisclosed amount. The transaction transfers ownership of Gunnebo Entrance Control’s operations, including its global manufacturing network and product portfolio, to the Swedish lock and access solutions provider. The deal has been completed following regulatory approvals, and the acquired business will be integrated into ASSA ABLOY’s existing entrance systems division.
Gunnebo Entrance Control specialises in speed gates, revolving doors, turnstiles, and security booths, serving sectors such as airports, stadiums, hospitals, data centres, and corporate workplaces. Its products are designed for high-traffic environments where security and seamless passage must coexist. ASSA ABLOY Group, a global leader in access solutions, manufactures locks, doors, and electronic access control systems for commercial and institutional markets. The acquisition adds a dedicated entrance control product line to ASSA ABLOY’s portfolio, complementing its existing offerings in physical and digital access management.
The strategic rationale for the purchase lies in the complementary nature of the two businesses. ASSA ABLOY’s strength in electronic access control and identification systems can be paired with Gunnebo Entrance Control’s physical barriers and pedestrian flow management. This combination allows the combined entity to offer integrated solutions where a user’s credential, such as a card or mobile device, can be verified and then matched with a physical gate or door operation. For customers, this means a single supplier for both the software and hardware layers of entry management, reducing integration complexity in projects like airport terminals or corporate campuses.
The acquisition also broadens ASSA ABLOY’s reach into segments where Gunnebo Entrance Control has established a presence, particularly in high-security public venues and critical infrastructure. Gunnebo’s manufacturing footprint provides additional production capacity, while its design-focused approach to lobby and gateway aesthetics aligns with ASSA ABLOY’s emphasis on user experience. No changes to existing customer contracts or product availability have been announced, and the Gunnebo Entrance Control brand will continue to operate under its current name for the foreseeable future.
With the integration underway, the combined business is positioned to respond to growing demand for frictionless yet secure entry points in public and private buildings. The focus will be on delivering unified access solutions that link identity verification with physical barriers, a segment expected to expand as organisations upgrade legacy systems. The deal strengthens ASSA ABLOY’s competitive position in the entrance control market, while Gunnebo Entrance Control gains access to a larger distribution network and broader R&D resources.
