YCell has acquired GAMTEL.GM, The Gambia Telecommunications Company Limited, for an undisclosed amount. This corporate acquisition sees YCell taking ownership of the primary provider of core telecommunication services in The Gambia, a state-owned entity with a 99% stake held by the Gambian government. The transaction marks a significant shift in the telecommunications landscape of the region, integrating GAMTEL.GM's extensive infrastructure and market presence under YCell's operational control.

GAMTEL.GM has established itself as a foundational pillar of The Gambia's digital infrastructure over three decades. The company operates a modern, efficient network utilizing state-of-the-art technology, providing a wide array of services including International Private Leased Circuit (IPLC), IP-MPLS/Virtual Private Network (VPN), and Backhauling (Dark Fibre). It also pioneered the subsidiary GSM operator GAMCEL and is developing e-solutions such as E-LEARNING, E-COMMERCE, and E-Health. Crucially, GAMTEL.GM is connected to the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) submarine fibre optic cable, boasting three international gateways and holding the highest ownership share in the ACE Gambia segment.

The acquisition is strategically significant for YCell, providing immediate access to a robust, established telecommunications network and a leading market position within The Gambia. GAMTEL.GM's extensive fibre optic infrastructure, including its critical ACE cable connectivity and international gateways, offers YCell a substantial platform for regional expansion and enhanced service delivery. This move is expected to enable YCell to leverage GAMTEL.GM's existing customer base and advanced network capabilities to accelerate its own growth objectives and introduce new services to the Gambian market.

Expected synergies from this acquisition include the optimization of network operations, expansion of digital services, and a strengthened competitive posture. The combined entity is poised to enhance the delivery of telecommunication solutions across The Gambia, potentially driving innovation in areas like e-banking, e-learning, and e-health. This integration aims to create a more comprehensive and efficient telecommunications provider, positioned to meet evolving market demands and contribute to the digital transformation of the region.
