Nielsen has acquired DoubleVerify for $2.1 billion, a cash transaction that unites the television ratings firm with a digital media measurement platform. The deal, announced today, places DoubleVerify’s technology directly under Nielsen’s corporate umbrella, marking the end of DoubleVerify’s status as an independent company.

DoubleVerify operates a software platform that provides measurement and analytics for digital advertising. Its tools are used by hundreds of Fortune 500 advertisers to assess campaign quality, verify ad placement, and gauge effectiveness across online channels. Nielsen, long known for its television audience ratings, has been expanding its footprint into cross-platform measurement as media consumption shifts away from linear TV. The acquisition gives Nielsen direct ownership of a digital verification layer that it previously lacked in-house.

The strategic rationale centers on combining Nielsen’s established audience data with DoubleVerify’s ad-level analytics. By integrating the two, Nielsen aims to offer advertisers a more unified view of campaign performance across both traditional and digital screens. For DoubleVerify, the acquisition provides access to Nielsen’s broader client relationships and legacy in media research, potentially accelerating the adoption of its tools among larger brand budgets. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of the year, subject to regulatory approvals.

Post-close, the combined entity will operate with DoubleVerify’s technology embedded into Nielsen’s product suite, though the companies have not detailed specific product roadmaps. The deal positions Nielsen to compete more directly with other measurement firms that already offer cross-channel analytics. For DoubleVerify’s existing customers, the change in ownership may bring new data integrations, but the company’s core mission of providing unbiased digital measurement remains unchanged under Nielsen’s stewardship.
