MDA Space has acquired CLS Group (Collecte Localisation Satellites), a global pioneer in Earth monitoring and surveillance solutions, for $648.5 million. Founded in 1986 as a subsidiary of the French Space Agency (CNES) and CNP, CLS Group's mission is to create innovative space-based solutions to understand and protect our planet and to manage its resources sustainably. This corporate acquisition marks a significant expansion for MDA Space into advanced environmental and maritime intelligence services.
CLS Group employs 1,200 people, with its headquarters in Toulouse, France, and operations across 40 other sites worldwide. The company operates in five strategic markets: sustainable fisheries management, environmental monitoring, maritime surveillance, mobility, and energy & infrastructures monitoring. CLS processes data from 200,000 transponders monthly, including drifting buoys, animal tags, and vessel tracking systems. It also observes oceans and inland waters daily using over 20 satellite instruments and monitors land and sea activities with nearly 20,000 radar processes annually, demonstrating its extensive data collection and analysis capabilities.
The acquisition is strategically significant, combining MDA Space's established expertise in space technology with CLS Group's specialized data solutions and global monitoring networks.
